Embark! Book of Mormon Reading Chart Bookmark

Every year I like to challenge myself to read the Book of Mormon, and something about charts motivates me to stick to my goal. I especially appreciate charts with some level of creativity, so I decided to throw one together. The whole idea is to embark on a journey through the Book of Mormon, and track the escalating climb of accomplishment with this bookmark. A bookmark was the smartest size for the chart, and that way it's super convenient to use while you read.

Embark! Book of Mormon Reading Chart BookmarkI would suggest printing these on good, sturdy paper and laminating them, so that they can last through the whole year. I've made them in four colors, which can each be downloaded as either a single JPG, or 5 to a page.

Personal Progress Individual Tracking Sheet

I've had several requests for some simple resources for Young Women, such as a tracking sheet for Personal Progress, so I threw this simple sheet together. Hopefully the simplicity and bright colors can aid in motivating Young Women to refocus on Personal Progress.

Sacrament Prayer Printable Sticky Note Free Download

I have a confession: I'm addicted to sticky notes. I use them all the time and for all sorts of things. Whenever I need to remember something, I always turn to my collection of sticky notes. And so as I was going through Personal Progress again, I realized I'd somehow become a little rusty when it came to memorizing things, for example: the Sacrament prayers.

So I decided I would have a little fun and make a simple, sticky note scaled printable with both prayers. These would be great to hand out for a Young Women's or Sunday School challenge relating to the sacrament. And if you don't want to mess with printing on sticky notes, you can print them out on cardstock and cut them to be 3x3. Either way you'll get a handy, portable set of the prayers for virtually anything, anywhere.

Sacrament Prayer Printable Sticky Note Free DownloadSacrament Prayer Printable Sticky Note Free Download

To print them you'll need to download both the sacrament prayer PDF, and the sticky note printing template. Of course, if you're just printing them for yourself, you aren't going to need 3 sets, so I also have a PDF with a single set. Basic instructions for printing are on the template's page, but it's pretty simple to figure out.

These would serve as great tools while working on Faith #4, Divine Nature #4, or Virtue #4 to help you really focus on the Sacrament, and hopefully ponder it on a deeper level throughout the week.

Come Follow Me through Personal Progress | Free Download from The Personal Progress Helper

Have I mentioned how much I love Come, Follow Me? I love how simple and direct it is in teaching the doctrines and principles of the Gospel. Have I mentioned how much I love that Personal Progress does the same thing? And best of all, both are designed to help youth APPLY the gospel to their lives!

Of course I couldn't ignore this correlation, and so I ended up pairing Personal Progress experiences with the different lesson topics. I was surprised by just how much overlap there was between the lessons and the experiences.

I have print outs in two sizes: 11x8.5 (full sheet) and 5.5x4.25 (quarter sheet). Both could be handed out to young women at the beginning of the month at the introduction of the topic, and the full size could even be pinned to a wall or bulletin board for reference throughout the month. It could even be presented as a challenge with a motivational prize for the extra daring. Be creative!

Honor Bee Mentor Ideas

Serve others for a total of 40 hours. Where possible, some of these hours should include mentoring another young woman with her Personal Progress. This should be done under the direction of the ward or branch Young Women presidency.

As you help another young woman, you may want to:

Be her friend.
Be an example of a righteous daughter of God.
Encourage her to work with her parents in selecting appropriate value experiences and projects.
Help her follow through with value experiences and projects.
Help her keep records of value experiences and projects.
Help her understand the gospel principles that the value experiences and projects teach.
Encourage her to read the Book of Mormon, and discuss with her what she is reading.
Encourage her to share value experiences and projects with her family.

Study a gospel principle together, and share with her how living that principle strengthens your faith. Encourage her to live that principle or to select one that would help her strengthen her faith. (See Faith Value Experience 3.)
Help plan a ward speech, music, dance, or drama festival for your ward. Specifically plan to help one young woman complete a Personal Progress requirement. (See Individual Worth Value Experience 5.)
Is there a skill or talent that you could teach another young woman, like cooking, conducting music, or changing a tire? Help her find a way to display her new skill. (See Knowledge Value Experience 2.)
Help another young women understand the scriptures in each value experience and bear testimony of how this understanding has made a difference in your life.
Talk with her about the standards in For the Strength of Youth. Each of you choose a standard to improve in your life. After three weeks, talk with each other about your progress on that standard, and then share with your families, class, or a Young Women leader what you both have done. (See Choice and Accountability Value Experience 2.)
Visit with a young woman to help her identify what type of service she could give to fulfill Good Works Value Experience 6. Help her with planning and serve with her.
Help a young woman with special needs in your ward to work on her Personal Progress. Be a friend to her and help her read the scriptures or plan projects.
Make a Personal Progress Pocket for the Young Women you're mentoring to hold her personal progress, journal, and Strength of Youth book
Make monthly personal progress reminders for the girls in your ward, especially those who need more motivation
Make a prayer rug for the young woman
Teach her how to make a scripture case to keep her scriptures and personal progress in
Volunteer to host a mutual activity that focuses on Personal Progress
Help the Young Women make 72 hour kits for their homes
Help, teach and encourage a young woman to keep and write a scripture journal.
Teach the young woman how to use Family Search and gather names to take to the temple

Your Happily Ever After by Dieter F. Uchtdorf video presentation featuring Disney Princesses

Your Happily Ever After by Dieter F. Uchtdorf video presentation featuring Disney PrincessesIn case regular visitors of this website haven't noticed, I absolutely love fairy tales being used as metaphors for the gospel. Something that certainly aided in this love for fairy tales is that one of my very first experiences in Young Women's was watching the General Young Women Conference where Dieter F. Uchtdorf delivered his outstanding talk, "Your Happily Ever After." Since that talk was given nearly 5 years ago, I have turned to it countless times during various struggles I have faced, and come out refocused on the bigger picture that is God's Plan of Happiness.

A project that I've been working on for nearly a year is creating a video presentation of Uchtdorf's talk comprised of clips from Disney animated films. I know that not everybody appreciates Disney Princess themed additions to their Young Women activities, but for those that do, they should find this to be an enjoyable and edifying video. As I was putting it together, I was touched by different aspects of his talk in ways I hadn't been before. I laughed and cried, and came to appreciate his metaphor of Happily Ever After on a much deeper level.

This video presentation could certainly be used in Young Women lessons, or at New Beginnings, Young Women in Excellence, or Girls Camp. I've also created several handouts with an excellent quote from the talk, which can be downloaded below.

This talk is given as a resource for the following Come Follow Me lessons:

Could be used in the following Personal Progress experiences:

LDS Young Women Heart Attack Valentines Free Download

Through the years I've become disheartened with Valentine's Day (pun only slightly intended) as it has a knack for overshadowing my birthday on the 11th of February. This year, though, I've softened up to the idea slightly after being put in charge of planning a Valentine themed activity this Wednesday (which, if you'll notice, is the 11th).

My presidency and I counseled together, and determined that while we wanted to do some sort of heart attack, we weren't sure who or how. Then out of the blue the idea of constructing heart attack kits was born. That way EACH young woman could heart attack the person of their choice, whether it be a friend's locker, or a sibling's bedroom.

In order to keep the focus on Personal Progress, we'll be encouraging the young women to start either Divine Nature #3 or Individual Worth #3.

I apologize for the lateness of this idea, but this would be an excellent last minute, festive activity. And I have a bunch of valentines to download below. If they don't make it into any heart attack kits, they'd certainly be fun to share on the Sunday following Valentine's Day!

I have a handful of sweet ones which are distinctively more churchy, some animal puns, candy grams, and what would any holiday be without Disney?

(all are scaled 4 to a page)

Scriptural Women of Value Poster Free Download

I love the countless examples of women in the scriptures. Many claim that there aren’t enough women in the scriptures, and while their claims are certainly valid, I see so much depth in the few portraits of women we have the privilege of finding in our scriptures.

Quite a few have seen my series of value posters with Disney Princesses, and several people have mentioned that they would love to see value posters pulling role models from the scriptures. The idea excited me, as it was in fact directly correlated with a project I’ve been working on for the past several months, and so I focused my personal study on seeking out the righteous examples we’ve been given in scripture and finding the values they emulate.

As a disclaimer in advance, I do not own the copyright to any of the paintings used. These posters are only for non-commercial home and church use. I make no profit whatsoever from these posters. I did my best to search the copyright of the individual paintings to see that I would be able to use these images for this small, non-profit project. That being said, I found each one of these paintings to beautifully reflect the divine spirits depicted in the scriptures of each of these women.

Each poster is available as a JPG file, and the set can be downloaded as PDFs. They are only intended to be printed 8.5 x 11, or smaller.

Honor Bee Individual Tracking Sheet | Free Download

When I created a tracking sheet for Personal Progress, I knew that eventually one for the Honor Bee would eventually need to follow. I'd just created this last night with the intention of sharing it at the end of the week, but then commenter Melody mentioned the need, and so I figured "Why wait?"

Honor Bee Individual Tracking Sheet | Free DownloadThis uses the same value color scheme, only scrambled up a bit. There are 40 squares for tracking service hours, and a box for Book of Mormon reading. Hopefully it'll be just what some young women need for tracking their progress.

Come Follow Me: The Plan of Salvation Handouts | Free Download

My FAVORITE gospel topic to study is the Plan of Salvation, because it encompasses EVERY other element of the gospel and makes everything so clear. And there's always something new to learn from it, no matter how young or old!

I'm hoping to start creating more handouts to correspond with Come Follow Me lessons, and so to start out with I have a batch for The Plan of Salvation—specifically for the lesson "What is the purpose of life?" because that's the topic I'm teaching later this month—but they would likely prove useful in other lessons as well.

The Plan of Happiness Free Download for Come Follow Me Lesson "What is the purpose of life?"

First is a basic illustration of God's plan of happiness, including the premortal life, mortal life (with the necessity of temple ordinances and the atonement), the spirit world, resurrection, judgment, and the three kingdoms (including the three degrees within the Celestial kingdom). Along the bottom is Moses 1:39.

PURPOSE Free Download for Come Follow Me Lesson "What is the purpose of life?"

Next, I have an acrostic poem which offers a different perspective on the purpose of life, with each letter outlining something we need to obtain or achieve in order to reach our ultimate purpose.

"Your Four Minutes" Free Download for Come Follow Me Lesson "What is the purpose of life?"

I also have this quote from Elder Gary E. Stevenson's talk Your Four Minutes, likening the plan of salvation to a race, with the prize being Eternal Life.

"Your Happily Ever After" Free Download for Come Follow Me Lesson "What is the purpose of life?"

And finally an excellent quote from Uchtdorf's Your Happily Ever After talk to young women.

All the files can be downloaded at this link. I have JPG image files, and PDF files with four to a page.

At this point I still don't know which handouts I'll even be using, so I guess I'll have to rely on the Spirit!

Young Women Value Disney Princess Posters | Free Download

I'm so surprised and grateful for the enormous response I've gotten from the posters I created just 6 months ago featuring Disney Princesses. They've been viewed by countless young women around the world, and I hope that they've been enjoyable and inspiring. I was recently looking them over, and felt the need to update them a little—and here's the finished product! The design is essentially the same. They're slightly larger (11x14, 100dpi), have higher quality princess images, and some have had their quotes switched, or at least modified. I'm really happy with how they turned out, and hopefully they can reach even further than their predecessors.

Recreating these also prompted me to get started on more Princess themed resources that would be especially helpful for activities such as New Beginnings, Young Women in Excellence, and Girls Camp—so keep an eye out.

To keep things simple for me, they can only be downloaded in one .zip file which contains all 13 images in JPG format.

I will NOT be offering custom sizes due to the demand that has previously placed on me. Luckily with the larger dimensions, they can still be adjusted in size and retain decent quality.

Come Follow Me: The Atonement of Jesus Christ HANDOUTS | Free Download

I love the Atonement. Studying it always leaves me with a feeling of comfort and hope. I'm full of mistakes, and the knowledge that my trials won't last forever, and I can repent of my wrongdoings is so encouraging.

In my studying lately, I've found several wonderful quotes about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and so I've created a handful of simple handouts containing these quotes. They can all be downloaded in a single .zip folder, which contains each file in two sizes: 4x6 and 4.25x5.5 (quarter sheet) in JPG format (300dpi). Included is also a PDF copy of The Living Christ with a design which is cohesive with the others in this download.

Some more may be coming as I find the time and inspiration, but I figured I would share what I've made so far so teachers can get a head start on planning their lessons through March.

General Women's Session Invitation Free Printable in 3 colors!

I LOVE General Conference, and I especially love the General Women's Session. I'm excited that now it's being formally recognized as an official session of Conference, because it's always been that way in my mind. In years past I've had some years when the Young Women would have a big party, and others when they'd forget about it completely.

In an effort to solve this predicament of forgetfulness, I've made super simple invitations that wards can distribute to the Young Women, Relief Society, and Primary as a reminder to the girls and women. It could be especially meaningful if the Young Women personally invite the Primary girls.

I've made them in three different color schemes—teal and pink, green and lavender, & cranberry and gold—and with four different times because of time zone differences, because some wards will hold a dinner beforehand.

The invitations are designed to be printed 4 to a sheet. One .zip file includes 12 different invitations (3 colors x 4 time zones) in 3 formats—JPG (300dpi), PDF (4 to a sheet), and full sheet PDF.

UPDATE 3/3/15: I realized after recieving an email that their are quite a few circumstances where the main viewing venue would be the stake center. Subsequently I put together an identical set of invitations with the locations swapped out.

I also have a set of invitations with the location spot empty, for leaders who choose to host the broadcast in their homes. These are only available as JPG due to personal time constraints. If you would like to maintain consistency with the design, the font is Bebas at 60pt.

If you email personalprogresshelper@gmail.com I will happily customize times, but not location (with some exceptions) or add further information.

General Conference Study Packet FREE Download! 60 pages of General Conference study aids!

As fun as egg hunts and mysterious bunnies are, the highlight of my early Spring holiday celebration is General Conference—which happens to fall on Easter weekend, so it's the best of both worlds!

Every six months I try to see what I can do to get the most out of General Conference. This year I'm really trying to get a head start on the spiritual preparation by studying previous talks and pondering questions I've had in the months since.

Doing so has gotten me SO excited that I wanted to create and share this study packet. In years past I've done things similarly, writing out questions beforehand, and evaluating the inspiration I receive between sessions. Hopefully my system proves to be helpful to other young women!

General Conference time is an excellent time to think about Personal Progress and set goals again! To help you get in a Personal Progress mindset, there's Personal Progress BINGO, or better yet you could create a whole General Conference Value Project!

History of the Young Women's Organization

I'm not a big history person, because names and dates just don't stick with me, try as I might. Nevertheless, I love stories about people who have done their part to influence change for good in the world. I think this is one reason why I love church and family history so much—because I can directly see the results of what they've done in my everyday life, because if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here. You could say that about any area of history, but it's these focuses where the Spirit aids me in my study most of all.

Not long ago I was thinking about the women in the history of the church, and specifically the young women. We don't hear a lot about them, so I decided to go digging and research the history of the Young Women's organization. I was actually surprised by the amount of information I was able to find, and how much of it is unfamiliar to most young women and leaders. I saw this as an opportunity to share the small insights I found about the history of the Young Women's organization.

I think that reading through all this information could be fun in a mutual activity, a fireside, or could possibly be used as the basis of Girl's Camp! If anyone else is as intrigued as I was, I would encourage you to click through the sources at the end, because there are some really unique gems buried in there!

3 Ways to Enjoy General Conference & Make the Most of General Conference M&M Handouts

I'll admit that I'm not a huge Pinterest person— despite the fact that it appears otherwise—but every once in a while I'll find something that really makes me smile. One thing I've seen abundantly over the past few weeks are several handouts with the phrase "Make the Most of General Conference" attached to a packet of M&M's. It seems like the idea originated on Makoodle, which is super cute!

I thought the idea was so cute that it got me thinking of creating a companion handout. Another thing I've seen are poems using M&M's, rotating it to make a 3, a W, and an E, each standing for something. I love President Uchtdorf's advice for conference preparation, where he lists three things we can do, so I just sort of combined the two ideas and the result is a cute, fun handout with 3Ways to Enjoy General Conference.

And even though I adore all the other handouts I've encountered, I really wanted cohesion, so I created my own "Make the Most" handout, designed to be similar to an actual M&M's package.

Experiences in Each Value! Personal Progress for General Conference

I think it's pretty evident that Personal Progress and General Conference go together better than Peanut Butter & Chocolate! Personal Progress is designed to help us draw closer to Christ and become like Him, and General Conference offers us specific revelation to help us do that!

Of course we know that General Conference serves as a great value project, but I went through the value experiences and found quite a few that include studying the teaching found in General Conference.

Experiences in Each Value! Personal Progress for General Conference

Faith #1

The first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Learn about faith from the scriptures and living prophets. Read Hebrews 11; Alma 32:17–43; Ether 12:6–22; and Joseph Smith—History 1:11–20. Read two general conference talks on faith. Exercise your own faith by establishing a habit of prayer in your life. Begin by regularly saying your morning and evening prayers. After three weeks of following this pattern, discuss with a parent or leader what you have learned about faith and how daily personal prayer has strengthened your faith. In your journal express your feelings about faith and prayer.

Divine Nature #2

As a young woman you are blessed with divine feminine qualities. Increase your understanding of and appreciation for womanhood. Read Proverbs 31:10–31 and two talks on womanhood from a conference issue of the Church magazines. Review what “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” says about being a wife and a mother. Then ask your mother or another mother you admire what she thinks are important attributes for being a mother. List the attributes in your journal. Then choose one of those attributes and strive to develop it. After two weeks report your success to a parent or leader.

Individual Worth #2

Learn about the importance of patriarchal blessings by studying about them in True to the Faith and recent conference talks. Find out why they are given and who can give them. Discuss with a parent or Church leader how to prepare to receive a patriarchal blessing and how it can teach you of your worth and identity and be a guide throughout your life. If you have not received your blessing, prepare to receive it.

Knowledge #4

Select a gospel principle you would like to understand better (for example, faith, repentance, charity, eternal families, or baptismal covenants). Read scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets that relate to the principle. Prepare a five-minute talk on the subject and give the talk in a sacrament meeting, in a Young Women meeting, to your family, or to your class. Record in your journal how you can apply this gospel principle in your life.

ANY Choice and Accountability Experience

In my opinion, it seems like the majority of conference talks touch on the topics covered in these experiences, so it should be easy to find one to correlate with the experience of your choice!

Good Works #4

Teach a lesson about service in family home evening or in another setting. Use pictures, music, examples [from General Conference], or demonstrations in your lesson. You may want to use the manual Teaching, No Greater Call as a resource.

Integrity #7

List the issues, trends, and problems that weaken the family. Read the First Presidency message, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”, and the section on family in For the Strength of Youth. Then research in the Church magazines the counsel of those whom we sustain as prophets, seers, and revelators. Write in your journal your plan to strengthen your present family and the values and traditions you want to establish with your future family.

ANY Virtue Experience

As with Choice and Accountability, so many talks touch on the topics discussed in the value of Virtue, so there should be no problem finding one that fits!

General-Conference-Spring-2015-Study-Schedule-Header

I loved General Conference! It was so inspiring and exciting. I took so many notes that by the last session my ink-stained fingers were cramped and twitching, but the rest of me was on top of the world!

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, all the conference addresses will be published in English by Wednesday, and their titles and summaries are already available. This used to take at least a week only a few short years ago!

In order to keep the momentum going, I decided to come up with a simple schedule in order to study all the talks. Initially I was only going to do talks from the General Sessions because those would fit so nicely in a weekly schedule, but the talks which inspired me most actually came from the Women's and Priesthood sessions, so I doubled up several weeks to include those.

Studying General Conference talks prayerfully, and especially taking notes on them, would be a really great Personal Progress project under any value! Based on the topics which were most frequently discussed, I'd probably suggest Faith, Divine Nature, Choice and Accountability, or Integrity as the value for a project.

The Summer Personal Progress Challenge

The Summer Personal Progress Challenge

Complete the Personal Progress Program in its entirety over the course of twelve weeks!
The idea of doing the entire Personal Progress Program over a single summer may seem ridiculous, but in reality is entirely doable! Personal Progress is all about building small, lasting habits that will help you grow spiritually, and to spend an entire summer focused on Personal Progress will aid you in your personal spiritual progression and help you solidify those habits.

The Summer Personal Progress Challenge lays out a week by week schedule for you to complete. Initially it may appear overwhelming, but the majority of Personal Progress experiences can be completed in under an hour. The Personal Progress Helper blog will be posting weekly goals, and participants will be encouraged to share their progress through social media, using the hashtag #PersonalProgressChallenge.

This idea has been in my mind for several months, but I would love to credit 12 Weeks of Progress as inspiration, because it is what catapulted me into finishing the planning of this, plus it's super amazing. 12 Weeks of Progress is incredibly similar to the Summer Personal Progress Challenge, with emphasis placed on different parts of the program. It was created by an amazing Laurel in Utah, and I highly recommend that you check it out and consider it as another option.

The Summer Personal Progress Challenge

The Summer Personal Progress Challenge is entirely adaptable. Many young women have already partially completed the program, in which case they can customize the schedule to fit their individual needs. It includes all seven experience options in each value, when only six need be completed, so as to let young women choose which to complete. The only exception is Knowledge #7, which can be completed the week following Girls Camp.

For older young women who have already completed the program, use this opportunity to do the program over again, especially as you prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.
Leaders are invited to participate, too! The requirements for leaders to complete Personal Progress vary in some ways, but this challenge can be adapted for those as well. Leaders are strongly encourages to work with their young women in the challenge, as it will require regularly counseling and discussing.

The projects are spaced out so as to complete them in approximately three weeks (the exception being Virtue) and overlapping with other projects, but again, that can adapted. They are scheduled so that you can finish the project after completing the other requirements, but in most cases starting the project before completing all the experiences. Discuss this with your parents or leaders beforehand, and adapt it appropriately. Some may opt to forego all projects over the Summer. It is very strongly encouraged that you plan out all of your projects ahead of time, including doing minimal preparations, so that you can appropriately execute them in the scheduled amount of time. For inspiration, see the lists of PROJECT IDEAS provided by The Personal Progress Helper, and most importantly pray for inspiration.

It is up to you to decide when to start the challenge, but The Personal Progress Helper will be officially starting the challenge on June 1st, finishing 12 weeks later on August 23rd. Weekly goals will be posted on the preceding Saturdays, at 12:00AM PST. In addition to outlining the weekly goals, there will be optional additional challenges that will involve sharing Personal Progress through social media and add to young women's experience.

I genuinely hope that young women will find this challenge as a valuable resource to help them complete the Personal Progress Program. It has the power to change lives and is worth every effort put into it.

Summer-Personal-Progress-Challenge1

I've been getting really excited about this Summer Personal Progress Challenge. After almost completing it last year, I've seen ways it could be improved and built upon. One thing I've done is create a week-by-week study packet. Each week has a theme that ties together the experiences for that week. It lists the experiences and projects, and includes where you should be in the Book of Mormon. As a bonus, it also includes a number of journal prompts, which really help tie together the experiences.

To download I have the study packet as a PDF, and also a separate PDF with just the journal prompts, if that's more your style.

And as a bonus, I have a handout with a beautiful quote which really serves as the prime motivation for putting together a program like this. If you want to introduce this program to the young women in your ward, definitely consider using this quote as an illustration.
